P3 - Final Render

This is my final render I chose orange and black for my colours because it relates back to my animal skin precedent specifically tiger skin. The reason i chose this composition is because the 2 outer renders are very similar in shape and size compared to the middle render with the middle render on one of the sides it looks to heavy and off putting.

P3 - Final Photo

I decided on this photo for my final because the ripple texture on it relates back to my animal skin precedent as it looks like skin that you can almost feel the roughness of it.

P3 - 3d Model (Red)

This is my final 3d printed model, painted red. I painted it red because when i got my model back it reminded me of a flame flickering, so i painted it red as that is the colour i associate with fire. I was considering painting it orange but felt it wouldn't have the same effect as the red does.

P3 - 3d Model (White)

This is my 3d printed model painted white before i paint it red. I painted it white first in case the red paint doesn't apply well to the transparent plastic.

P3 - Final 3 Models

P3 - Shape 3 Final 5

This was definitetly my favourite 5 iterations overall, all 3 of my final picks come from here. The second one from left was my orignal favourite overall but i really like the third and last one, I will submit all three and get the tutors opinion on which one i should pick as my final. I like the spherical shape of my second iteration but the thrid and fifth have so much more detail and form to them.

P3 - Shape 2 Final 5

This is my final 5 for shape 2. I used more structure in these shapes rather than chaos because most patterns have a defined structure in them. My favourite is probably the fourth from the left because although there is a defined structure there is also a bit of chaos forming in it.

P3 - Shape 1 Final 5

This is my final 5 of shape 1. My favourite out of these is the fourth iteration from the left, it really expresses the feeling of skin wrapped around something tightly like an animal pelt wrapped around a cold human being. I'm not sure if i want this to be my final model though as im not fully sold on it.

P3 - Shape 3

This is my final sketch imported into 3ds max and modified, on this shape ive more focused on structure rather than the chaos my other shapes have expressed.

P3 - Shape 2

This is my second sketch that i have traced in solid works and imported into 3ds max to be modified.

P3 - Shape 1 attempt 2

I tried retracing my sketch in solidworks in more detail and importing it into 3ds max to apply different modifiers to see if i could get more zing out of it. I feel it improved a bit but not enough to my satisfaction, i will try my other sketches to see what i can get.

P3 - Shape 1 3ds Max

I decided to play around with my first shape in 3ds max. I applied some modifiers such as twist and ripple but so far i am not fully satified as i need much, much more detail.

P3 - Shape 1

I started by importing one of my sketches into Solidworks and outlining part of it using the spline tool then extruding it. I plan to try a few sketches in solidworks then import them into 3ds max to manipulate and modify them.

P3 - Sketches

These are my four sketches, i mainly focused on implementing my precedents into them and experimenting with shape and form. I used the patterns from my animal skin precedents as the basis of my sketches for example using the tiger pattern on a curved cube and combining it with a snake form. For my third sketch i combined the teeth from my alligator skin precedent and the strokes from the devon rex cat precedent too form something more abstract so that i can explore all posibilities.

P3 - Precedents

Alligator skin

Devon Rex Cat

Komodo Dragon

Plotosaurus

Rattlesnake

Tiger

I chose animal skin for my precedents as there are a lot of unique natural patterns that the human eye can form from observing animal skin. Most animals have a purpose for the patterns in their skin such as camouflage, protection or to attract mates.

P2 Tracing

I started by screenshotting my final iteration and cutting it out in photoshop this made it easier to see what my 3d model will look like from front view. I then imported it into Illustrator and live traced it. After a little bit of tweaking i got the basic outline and made a few smaller versions.

P2 Lighting

Acrylic lighting

Cardboard lighting

I'm looking into what effect lighting does to acrylic and cardboard i think light could be a great way to bring more depth to my 3d model.

P2 - Precedents

All my precedents are different examples of how to connect layers
